The Drain Cat Who Finally Found His Way Home

The Drain Cat Who Finally Found His Way Home

Zuki is one tough American Shorthair. He went missing in June from his home in South Africa. For six long months, he lived a secret life. He was surviving in the storm drains of a local neighborhood. It sounds like an action movie. A search team even tracked his scent to a river when he first vanished. But then the trail went cold. His family must have been totally heartbroken.

Then last week, a kind woman named Zita saw him. He was not scared or shy at all. In fact, he walked right up to her like he was waiting for a ride. He was definitely ready to be done with his drain adventure. Zita took him to the vet, but he had no microchip. Still, she did not give up on him. She posted his handsome face on Facebook. The very next day, his family saw the post.

They were so shocked and happy to see their boy. It turns out the river behind their house connects right to where he was found. Zuki is finally back in his warm bed. And he has a brand new microchip now. So he is safe for good.

Why We Love This

As a dad to five cats, the thought of one being gone for six months is my worst nightmare. But Zuki’s story shows how tough cats really are. They are survivors! I love that Zita didn't just walk past him. She saw a friend in need. This is a huge reminder to all of us. Get your cats chipped. It is the best way to make sure a long trip away ends with a happy reunion. I am going to go hug my crew extra tight today.
